#54 assigned

Users need to be notified when they go over their quotas

Reported by: ibc599 Owned by: Robin Bowen
Priority: minor Component: Accessdev Server
Keywords: Cc: r.bowen@…

Description

Need to notify users by email when they have used their disk quotas.

A possible solution is to have a cron job which run each day to check if any users have reached their limits. If so, email them.

Being over quota can cause hard to diagnose problems when the .Xauthority file can't be created.

Can we create a login warning message?

You could have something like this easily enough, just need a way for it to run on login:

# Print user quota
quota -s

if [ $? != 0 ]; then
    # Mail quota exceeded message
    quota -s | mail -s "Warning: Over disk quota on $HOSTNAME" $USER
fi
