#231 new

Managing Python ecosystem

Reported by: Peter Steinle Owned by: Peter Steinle
Priority: trivial Component: ACCESS model

Plans for managing Python environments. Need to:

  • allow for new packages to be introduced
    • pip has traditionally been used, BUT
    • IRIS seems to rely on conda
    • and newer packages are moving away from pip
  • retain existing libraries
    • By default, conda wants to update all packages to latest release

Martin Dix had managed to successfully install module/iris at version 2.7.6 on ngamai. So must be feasible to manage via modules.

Note that the Met office currently has no plans to use modules, but also do not appear to have any well formed alternatives either.
