The role of the Working Group is outlined at Utils Working Group Portal

Responsibilities are:

  • Managing software that is not covered by Executables or Suites Working Group
    • This will be mainly Python, scripts and Fortran or C that has simple build procedures
    • Most of these utilities will be either triggered by the main analysis/forecast suite, or need to run both within a suite AND in stand-alone
    • Much of this software will not be time critical
  • Defining standards and procedures for releasing this software
  • Ensuring that these standards and procedures are followed
  • Coordinating the development of this software

Anyone who can contribute is encouraged to attend when they feel they have a contribution to make

The chair of the Working Group is to facilitate this (i.e. ensure that the Working Group fulfills these roles)

  • The chair is not there to tell people what and how to do things.
  • Decisions on activities are to be collective.

For the moment Peter Steinle is chairing the Working Group
